All About Tech Trek…
Tech Trek is a science and math camp designed to develop interest, excitement, and self-confidence in young women who will enter eighth grade in the fall. It features hands-on activities in math, science, and related fields. All sleeping, eating, instructional, and recreational facilities are located on a university campus where camps are held.
Our goal is to encourage a diverse group of young women to take math and science courses throughout high school; to motivate students to attend college and to inspire young women to consider STEM careers. One of the underlying goals of Tech Trek is to reach as many girls interested in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math) as possible.

Our Tech Trek girls gave an overview of the program and made ice cream for the audience!
Science, math, and technology are major fields where women are presently underrepresented but fields where they can and do succeed. The goal of Tech Trek is to provide a fun yet educational experience that will expand the minds of the middle-school girls who attend, allow campers to experience hands-on experiments and field trips related to math and science, live on a college campus, get acquainted with other girls who think science is fun, and meet female role models in math, science, technology, and other non-traditional careers. AAUW Mariposa sponsors local girls to Tech Trek camp each year.
Every girl attending a Tech Trek Science Camp is on a scholarship and was first recommended for the program by her middle school science or math teacher. We provide the schools and teachers with guidelines for choosing girls who will be successful at camp.
Recommended girls and their parents are contacted and asked to complete an application and to write a short essay on a chosen subject. Prospective campers are interviewed and this year 3 girls were chosen to participate. Families are asked to pay a very small part of the total amount if they can.
Scholarships are supported by community donations, as well as the Yard Sale. This year we send four campers to the program in Fresno beginning on June 19th.
